MUSIC & MARKET KICKS OFF
SEPTEMBER 17th IN OPELOUSAS

By Melanie Lee-Lebouef

A new season of Music & Market begins Friday, September 17th in Opelousas offering continuous entertainment through Friday, November 12, 2010. Presented by the City of Opelousas Tourism with support from CLECO, IESI, CenterPoint Energy, MIX 107.1/KSLO, Quik Quarter and St. Landry Parish Government, the event will feature Southwest Louisiana music in a unique family-friendly outdoor setting.

The fall series kicks off
with the blues sounds of Jude Taylor and his Burning Flames.  Grand Coteau native Jude Taylor spent his early days shadowing and singing background vocals for artists like Buckwheat Zydeco, Clifton Chenier and Marcel Dugas.  After playing at local clubs and honing his skills, Jude formed Jude Taylor and his Burning Flames. He plays a captivating blend of soulful R & B, blues and Zydeco and has toured from Florida to British Columbia, playing major festival and cultural venues.

The majority of the free, outdoor, cultural events are held at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion located at 828 East Landry Street on the grounds of the Opelousas Tourist Center. Each event offers something different and exciting!

In addition to musical entertainment, Music & Market will spotlight a vegetable and/or agricultural commodity where taste samples will be available. Some of the featured vegetables and products throughout the series include okra, squash, cabbage, mustard greens, pumpkins and sweet potatoes.

Music & Market happens from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., with music beginning at 6:00 p.m. Concert-goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs for seating. Because beverages sales for the concert series go towards covering the cost of bands and event expenses, ice chests will not be allowed.
